Free Carers Week events in Cheshire East this June: what residents need to know

Unpaid carers in Cheshire East are being invited to two free Carers Week Community Events in June, with advice, support services and refreshments available without booking.

The events are for residents who care for someone, including people who may not usually describe themselves as a carer. Cheshire East Council says more than 34,000 residents across the borough are unpaid carers, around 1 in every 11 people aged five and over.

Two drop-in sessions for unpaid carers

The Carers Week Community Events are being organised by Cheshire East Carers Hub and adult social care as part of Carers Week, which runs from 8 to 14 June.

This year’s theme is “Building Carer Friendly Communities”, and the local sessions are designed to help carers meet organisations that can offer practical support. The council says attendees will be able to connect with services, get advice and speak with others in similar caring roles.

The invitation is broad. It includes people supporting family members, friends or neighbours living with long-term illness, disability, mental health needs or age-related conditions.

For readers comparing support across nearby areas, Munisha has also covered Carers Week activities across Shropshire, where events are running during the same national awareness week.

Support available at the venues

Attendees will find organisations offering help on health and wellbeing, benefits and financial advice, dementia support and young carers services.

The sessions will also include community groups and respite activities, alongside end-of-life and future planning support. Those topics reflect the range of pressures often carried by unpaid carers, from day-to-day wellbeing to longer-term decisions for the person they support.

Feedback shared by local carers has highlighted connection, flexible help and practical support. One carer said: “Talking to other carers made all the difference.” Others pointed to support that fits around carers’ lives, the value of community support, and the difference made by simple things such as meals.

Who should attend

The events are aimed at unpaid carers and Cheshire East residents who care for someone. That includes people who provide regular help but may not have had contact with formal services before.

Councillor Jill Rhodes, Cheshire East Council cabinet member for adult social care, said unpaid carers are “at the heart” of local communities and support both loved ones and the wider health and care system.

She said Carers Week is a chance to show appreciation, raise awareness and help create communities where carers feel valued, supported and understood. Residents who care for someone, even if they do not think of themselves as a carer, are encouraged to attend, seek support and connect with others.

Practical details for enquiries

No booking is required for either event. The Middlewich session takes place at Salinae Day Centre on Tuesday 9 June, and the Macclesfield session takes place in the Silk Room at Macclesfield Town Hall on Thursday 11 June.

Both run from 10.30am to 2.30pm.
