According to the council, carers can get help to unlock money and benefits, make plans for emergencies, access housing options and find wider assistance. The event will also offer a chance to meet other carers in similar situations.

Citizens Advice and the Alzheimer’s Society will attend as part of Milton Keynes City Council’s Carers Support Service, which was launched last year. The service combines specialist assistance for unpaid carers of all ages, including face-to-face, phone and online support.

The council also says it provides a minimum direct payment of £240 for unpaid carers, alongside additional assistance that varies by individual circumstances.

Local organisations due to attend

Alongside services from Milton Keynes City Council, the event is due to include representatives from Age UK, Healthwatch and the NHS. Those attending will be able to ask questions and gather information from different organisations in one place.

The timing places the Milton Keynes event alongside other Carers Week activity, including free carers support sessions in Cheshire East.
