Plymouth Big Green Trail: free family day on 20 June

The Big Green Trail returns to Central Park in Plymouth on Saturday 20 June, with free entry, no booking required and activities running from 10am to 3pm.

Led by Climate Connections, a Plymouth City Council project, the community festival is aimed at families and residents who want a relaxed day outdoors with nature activities, creative workshops, cycling checks and local conservation groups in one place.

Free activities across Central Park

Visitors will be able to move around the park at their own pace, using a Big Green Trail activity pack to collect stamps at stops across Central Park. The idea is simple: turn a walk through the park into a hands-on trail, with each stop offering a different way to explore nature, reuse, wildlife or everyday climate action.

Westcountry Rivers Trust will bring an inflatable obstacle course, designed as a playful way to show how rivers work. National Trust and Green Communities will offer nature crafts, wildlife identification and guided walks.

Plymouth Sound National Marine Park and Ocean Conservation Trust will focus on the sea, with marine games and ocean artefacts. RSPB, Devon Wildlife Trust and Dartmoor Zoo are also listed among the organisations helping visitors learn more about local wildlife and conservation.

There will be creative stops too. Climate Action Plymouth will run Haikus for Hope, while Plymouth Scrapstore and Sewcial Guild’s Sew on the Road will offer reuse and making activities.

Cycling checks, home energy games and local climate stories

The practical side of the trail includes a free bike service and safety check from Dr Bike. Local transport organisations will also run cycling challenges during the day.

Plymouth Energy Community and Eljay Energy will use interactive games to cover renewable energy and home advice, giving the event a practical edge for households as well as children looking for things to do.

The trail will also include a Local Climate Legend Living Room, where visitors can watch short films and hear stories about residents, community groups and organisations working on environmental projects across Plymouth.

Tom Briars-Delve, Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, said The Big Green Trail is a way for people of all ages to get outdoors and learn about small changes that can help protect the environment, while bringing communities together around Plymouth’s greener future.
