Cheshire East free carers events set for 9 and 11 June

Unpaid carers in Cheshire East can attend free Carers Week Community Events in Middlewich and Macclesfield on Tuesday 9 June and Thursday 11 June. Both drop-in events run from 10.30am to 2.30pm, with no booking required and refreshments available.

The events are for residents who care for someone, including those who may not usually describe themselves as a carer. Cheshire East Council says the sessions are being organised by Cheshire East Carers Hub and adult social care to connect people with advice, services and other carers during Carers Week 2026.

Carers Week runs from 8 to 14 June in 2026, with this year’s theme focused on “Building Carer Friendly Communities”. In Cheshire East, the council says more than 34,000 residents are unpaid carers, around one in every 11 people aged five and over.

That includes people supporting family members, friends or neighbours living with long-term illness, disability, mental health needs or age-related conditions. For many, caring is part of daily life before it is ever treated as a formal role.

Advice available for unpaid carers

Attendees will be able to speak with organisations offering support across several areas of daily caring life. The confirmed support topics include:

  • Health and wellbeing
  • Benefits and financial advice
  • Dementia support
  • Young carers services
  • Community groups and respite activities
  • End-of-life and future planning support

The event is designed as a practical route into local services, rather than a formal appointment. The council notice says residents are invited to connect with services, advice and each other.

Readers looking beyond Cheshire East can also compare nearby Carers Week activity, including a free carers event in Milton Keynes and Carers Week activities across Shropshire.

Who should consider attending

The invitation is aimed at unpaid carers and residents who care for someone. That can include people supporting a parent, partner, child, friend or neighbour, even where the care is informal or shared with others.

Councillor Jill Rhodes, Cheshire East Council cabinet member for adult social care, said unpaid carers are “at the heart of our communities in Cheshire East” and encouraged residents who care for someone, even if they do not think of themselves as a carer, to attend the events, seek support and connect with others.

The council said feedback from local carers has pointed to the value of connection, flexible support and simple practical help. Comments shared in the notice included: “Talking to other carers made all the difference” and “Support that fits around carers’ lives matters.”
