Free Great Get Together events across Milton Keynes: practical information

The first tables, refreshments and council teams are due to be in place at Netherfield Meeting Place on Saturday 6 June, as Milton Keynes begins a run of free community events under The Great Get Together banner.

The series is open to everyone and runs across ten locations between June and November. Each event is free to attend, with residents invited to meet neighbours, take part in activities, speak to council teams and partners, and ask about local services including housing advice.

For readers planning around the first weekend, the opening event is on Saturday 6 June, from 11am to 2pm, at Netherfield Meeting Place, Farmborough, Netherfield, MK6 4HS. The final listed event is on Friday 27 November, from 3pm to 6pm, at Centrecom Community Centre in central Milton Keynes.

Ten free dates across Milton Keynes

The Great Get Together has been organised by the My Neighbourhoods Group, made up of council tenants and Milton Keynes City Council. The council says the aim is to bring communities closer and give residents a chance to become more involved in their local area.

The events are spread across different parts of Milton Keynes, including Netherfield, Wolverton, Bletchley, Conniburrow, Woburn Sands, Bradville, Fishermead, Olney and central Milton Keynes. That makes the programme more than a single civic meeting: it is a moving drop-in series designed to reach residents closer to where they live.

What residents can do on the day

Residents can expect refreshments and community activities at the sessions, alongside the chance to meet neighbours in a less formal setting than a council meeting or consultation.

Council teams and partner organisations are also expected to be present. According to the council’s notice, residents will be able to raise issues that matter to them locally, access housing advice, and find out how to get involved in improving their neighbourhood.

That mix gives the events a practical purpose for tenants and other residents who want a face-to-face route into local services. It may also suit people who have questions about their area but are unsure which council team or partner organisation to approach first.

Free Great Get Together events across Milton Keynes: practical information

Milton Keynes has several other free local support sessions listed this month, including a free carers event in Milton Keynes and loan shark advice drop-ins across Milton Keynes, but The Great Get Together is wider in scope, covering neighbourhood involvement, council contact and community connection.

Council tenants helped organise the series

The My Neighbourhoods Group is central to the programme. The group is made up of council tenants and the city council, which gives the events a resident-led element rather than making them solely a council roadshow.

Cllr Ed Hume, Cabinet Member for Housing, joined the group earlier this week as preparations were made for the first event. He said The Great Get Together was about strengthening the connection between residents and the council.

“We know that strong communities are built when people feel heard, supported and involved in local decisions,” he said. “These events give residents a real opportunity to share their views, access support and play a direct role in shaping the future of their neighbourhoods.”

Entry, cost and who should attend

The Great Get Together events are free and open to everyone. No booking requirement was listed in the council notice.

The sessions are aimed at residents of Milton Keynes, including people who want to meet neighbours, ask about council services, get housing advice, or learn how to take part in local neighbourhood improvements.

The next event is Saturday 6 June, 11am to 2pm, at Netherfield Meeting Place, Farmborough, Netherfield, MK6 4HS.
