A new weekday W3 bus route is now running in Wellingborough, linking the town centre with Kingsway and extending to Sainsbury’s during off-peak hours.
North Northamptonshire Council said it has worked with CommMiniBus to introduce the service, which started on Tuesday 26 May 2026. The route is partly funded by the council and is aimed at residents using local stops around Abbey Road, Kingsway, Princess Way and Berrymoor Road.
W3 route links Kingsway with the town centre
The W3 runs Monday to Friday between Church Street in Wellingborough town centre and the Kingsway area.

Buses stop along Abbey Road, Kingsway, Princess Way and Berrymoor Road, giving residents a direct local connection into the town centre for shops, appointments and onward travel.
During off-peak daytime hours, the route also extends to Sainsbury’s, which should help shoppers who do not drive or who rely on local public transport for supermarket journeys.
Weekday W3 timetable for Kingsway journeys
| Direction | Main weekday times |
|---|---|
| Church Street Bay C to Kingsway | From 07:25, then every 30 minutes in the morning, daytime and late afternoon blocks until 19:25 |
| Berrymoor Court towards Kingsway | Listed calls include 07:33, 09:33, 10:03, 15:03, 15:35 and 19:35 |
| Sainsbury’s extension | Off-peak calls include 10:07 and 15:07 towards Sainsbury’s |
| Sainsbury’s to town centre | From 10:10, every 30 minutes until 15:10 |
| Berrymoor Court to town centre | From 07:05, with half-hourly morning and late afternoon runs, continuing until 19:35 |
| Church Street Interchange arrival | Listed arrivals include 07:12, 09:43, 10:23, 15:23, 15:43 and 19:43 |
Passengers should check the stop they intend to use, as town centre journeys and supermarket extensions do not all follow the same stopping pattern across the day.

Sainsbury’s trips added during quieter hours
The supermarket extension is the main change for shoppers. Rather than only linking Kingsway with the centre of Wellingborough, selected off-peak services continue to Sainsbury’s during the middle of the day.
That matters for residents making food shopping trips outside the commuter peaks, particularly older passengers, families without regular car access and anyone using local buses for shorter everyday journeys.
Saturday service still to be added
The W3 is currently a Monday to Friday service. North Northamptonshire Council said a Saturday service will be introduced in due course, but no start date for weekend buses has been listed in the notice.
Until then, residents planning weekend journeys between Kingsway, Berrymoor Road, Wellingborough town centre and Sainsbury’s will need to use existing transport options.
