Sandwell residents get new council leadership: key details

By munisha.co.uk local news desk

Sandwell Council has formally confirmed Councillor Ray Nock as its new Leader of the Council, with Councillor Gary Dale appointed as Deputy Leader following the authority’s annual meeting on 26 May.

The appointments set the political leadership team responsible for guiding council priorities across housing, finance, regeneration, education, adult services, neighbourhoods and environmental enforcement.

Councillor Nock said he was born in Sandwell and had lived and worked in the borough all his life. He said the new leadership team would focus on jobs, town centres, high streets and support linked to the cost of living.

Cabinet roles confirmed after annual meeting

Councillor Ray Nock will serve as Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Growth.

Councillor Gary Dale has been named Statutory Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Services, while Councillor Ken Parsons becomes Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing.

Other cabinet appointments include Councillor Bob Jones for Environment and Enforcement, Councillor Mona Khurana for Children and Families, Councillor Jack Sabharwal for Education and Skills, Councillor Ritchie Massey for Adult Services, Health and Wellbeing, and Councillor Mike Cooper for Customer Services and Neighbourhoods.

Policy direction for the borough

The cabinet is the group responsible for setting Sandwell Council’s strategic and policy direction. Its portfolios cover services that affect residents directly, including housing, children’s services, schools, adult care, neighbourhood support and local environmental enforcement.

The leadership change follows the council’s annual meeting, where formal appointments are confirmed for the municipal year. The new team will now be expected to turn its stated priorities into decisions on budgets, service delivery and local regeneration work across Sandwell.

Councillor Nock said the cabinet was “totally committed to making our borough an even better place to live and work.”
