Bexley names Lisa-Jane Moore as new Mayor: practical information

Councillor Lisa-Jane Moore has become the London Borough of Bexley’s 62nd Mayor, taking up the civic role at the council’s Annual Meeting on 27 May.

Councillor Moore represents Longlands ward and was previously Deputy Mayor for 2024 to 2025. Her consort for the mayoral year is Mr Justin Moore. She appointed Councillor Frazer Brooks, who represents Blackfen and Lamorbey ward, as Deputy Mayor, with Ms Allison Hartshorn named Deputy Mayoress.

Longlands councillor takes civic office

Councillor Moore is the 74th person to hold the title of Mayor of Bexley since the old Borough of Bexley received its charter in 1937.

Born in East London, now called KuGompo City, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, she studied journalism and began her career running a local newspaper. She moved to London in 1997 with her husband, Justin. The couple became British citizens in 2003 and moved to Sidcup in the same year, living in Longlands ward ever since.

She also chaired Children’s Services scrutiny for three years, including work linked to SEND and foster carer recruitment and retention.

Public-sector communications background

Outside elected office, Councillor Moore has worked in communications, largely in the public sector. Her career has included work connected to preparations for the Millennium Bug, the London 2012 Olympic Games and NHS communications during the Covid-19 pandemic and other major incidents.

The Mayor said she was proud to serve Bexley, adding: “This borough has been my home for over two decades and I am committed to working tirelessly to support and uplift our residents.”
