Redbridge residents have been given a fresh outline of council plans covering affordable housing, green space, SEND education and children’s holiday activities.
The update, dated Friday 5 June 2026, says the council is moving election pledges into deliverable plans after conversations with residents during the campaign period. The measures most likely to affect households are the proposal for 1,000 new affordable homes, four new pocket parks, a new SEND school in Ilford and a wider programme of activities for children.
Housing, parks and services residents should track
The council says it is planning to bring 1,000 new affordable homes to Redbridge. No site list, delivery timetable or application route was included in the update, so housing applicants and residents near potential development areas should watch for later planning papers, consultation notices and cabinet reports.
Four new pocket parks are also part of the green space plans. Pocket parks are smaller neighbourhood green spaces, so the local impact will depend on where the sites are chosen, how they are maintained and whether they add play space, seating, planting or safer walking routes.
The update also points to wider investment in services and facilities, framed around making Redbridge a better place for children, older residents and families.

New Ilford SEND school due to open soon
A new school for children with special educational needs and disabilities is due to open soon in Ilford, according to the council.
The council describes the site as a state-of-the-art facility intended to help more local children receive education and support closer to home. For families, the practical questions will be admissions, transport, specialist support, age range and which needs the school will be equipped to serve.
Those details were not set out in the leader’s update, so parents and carers should expect further information from the council or education admissions channels before places are confirmed.
More than 50 play events planned next week
Redbridge Council and partner organisations have arranged more than 50 events across the borough to mark UNICEF’s International Day of Play next week.
The council says the activity programme builds on Redbridge’s UNICEF child-friendly recognition. Families should check the event list before travelling, because individual sessions may have different locations, age suitability, capacity limits or booking requirements.

The update did not state whether all events are free, so residents should confirm cost and booking details before attending.
Megamix bookings will open soon
Megamix, Redbridge’s summer and Easter holiday activity programme, is also due to open for booking soon. The programme is open to Redbridge children aged five and over.
Activities are expected to include sports, dance, drama, music skills and digital workshops, with sessions held in local facilities and venues around the borough. Some activities will require advance booking.
The council also says adapted sessions will be available for children who would benefit from additional support, including cycling, water sports and arts and crafts. Families planning around childcare, SEND support or school holiday costs should monitor booking dates closely, as popular sessions may fill quickly.
