Nottingham has launched its City Vision 2050 locally, setting out a long-term framework for neighbourhoods, economic growth and the city’s role as a destination for business, culture, sport and visitors.
The plan was presented at Nottingham Council House on Friday 5 June after an earlier national launch at UKREiiF in Leeds. Nottingham City Council said the vision was co-created with residents, businesses and partner organisations.

Three pillars for the city’s future
The Nottingham City Vision is built around three themes: Home, Heart and Host. The Home pillar focuses on healthier and more inclusive neighbourhoods. Heart positions Nottingham as a leading city within a growing regional economy. Host aims to strengthen its appeal to investors, visitors and cultural organisations.
The vision is also supported by ten proposed ideas intended to guide investment, regeneration and partnership work over the coming years. The council says the framework is designed to help public bodies, businesses, universities and voluntary sector groups work from a shared plan rather than separate priorities.

A related Munisha report on Nottingham’s 2050 housing and travel plan looked at how the wider vision could affect homes, transport and innovation-led jobs.
Business and regional partners back the launch
Speakers at the Council House events included council leader Cllr Neghat Khan, East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward, Nottingham City Council chief executive Sajeeda Rose, Lilian Greenwood MP, Nottingham College chief executive Janet Smith and Liz Cartwright of Cartwright Communications.

Cllr Khan said the plan was not a wish list but a set of “achievable and investable propositions”, adding that bringing the vision back to Nottingham after UKREiiF was aimed at involving local businesses, community organisations and partners.
Claire Ward said the plan linked Nottingham’s ambitions to the wider East Midlands economy, including work to unlock investment, support regeneration and create sustainable growth across the region.
Delivery work now moves to partners
The launch events included discussions on how organisations can support the Nottingham City Vision and what delivery could look like. Future decisions are expected to focus on turning the framework into projects, funding bids and partnership work across the city.
The council said the vision will act as a guide for future investment and regeneration as Nottingham develops its role in the wider Trent Arc and East Midlands economy.
