North Northamptonshire businesses to shape regional economic support

More than 1,500 businesses across the region are being called upon to influence the South Midlands economic roadmap. The South Midlands Authorities have launched the eighth edition of the South Midlands Business Survey, designed to gather direct feedback from firms of all sizes. This initiative aims to capture vital insights into the current economic climate, focusing on identifying barriers to growth and the specific skills needs of the local workforce.

Data collection for regional growth

The South Midlands is one of the UK’s most economically significant regions, contributing over £50 billion to the national economy each year. For more than a decade, this recurring survey has played a pivotal role in determining how regional authorities allocate resources and design delivery systems for business support. The data collected helps local government bodies understand the specific requirements for infrastructure, training, and financial assistance.

Direct influence on business support funding

Previous editions of the survey have resulted in tangible benefits for the local business community. Insights gathered in 2021 led directly to the development of the Growth Curve programme. This initiative, which received funding from the European Regional Development Fund, provided university-led training, one-to-one consultancy, and access to essential funding for more than 300 organisations.

By participating in the 2026 edition, North Northamptonshire business owners ensure that the next generation of support programmes is tailored to actual market conditions rather than theoretical models. The survey covers a representative sample of the economy, ensuring that the voices of small startups are heard alongside those of major industrial employers.

Survey timeline and participation

Public Perspectives Ltd, an independent market research provider, has been commissioned to conduct the study. The research phase is scheduled to run from May 2026 through July 2026. Businesses selected for the representative sample will be contacted directly to provide their input.
