Residents and property owners in the Krāslava municipality of Latvia are facing a significant administrative shift in local utility management. Following recent amendments to municipal regulations, the region is transitioning to a single, unified waste management zone. This consolidation means that residents currently served under the previous ‘Zone 2’ designation must now transition to a new service provider, SIA “Krāslavas nami.”
This change is part of a broader effort to streamline municipal services and ensure uniform waste collection standards across the entire administrative territory. For residents in the affected areas, this is not merely an administrative update but a mandatory legal requirement that necessitates the signing of new service contracts.
Areas Affected by the Transition
The requirement to sign new contracts applies specifically to waste producers—both individuals and businesses—located within the former second waste management zone. This includes the following locations:
- Dagda City
- Parishes: Andrupene, Andzeļi, Asūne, Bērziņi, Dagda, Ezernieki, Kastuļina, Konstantinova, Ķepova, Svariņi, and Šķaune.
Residents in these areas have a strict window of two months from the date of the official announcement to finalize their new agreements with the designated provider. Failure to update these contracts could lead to disruptions in service or non-compliance with the Waste Management Law.
The Move to a Single Zone
Historically, many Latvian municipalities operated with multiple service zones and different providers. However, Krāslava is moving toward a centralized model. Starting from June 20, 2026, SIA “Krāslavas nami” (registration number 45903001693) will become the sole provider for the entire Krāslava administrative territory. This move is designed to simplify logistics and potentially stabilize costs by leveraging a single infrastructure for the whole region.

This shift aligns with European-wide trends in municipal management where local authorities seek to gain better oversight of environmental standards and waste processing efficiency by reducing the number of private intermediaries.
How to Update Your Contract
To ensure uninterrupted waste collection services, affected residents must contact SIA “Krāslavas nami” to formalize their new agreements. The municipality has provided several channels for this process:
- In Person: Visit the office at Brīvības iela 5, Krāslava, LV-5601.
- By Phone: For inquiries regarding contract terms and documentation, call +371 65687002 or +371 65681569.
- By Email: Documentation and digital inquiries can be sent to [email protected].
While the new service officially begins on June 20, 2026, the two-month window for signing contracts is active now to prevent a last-minute administrative backlog. Residents are encouraged to review their current waste volume requirements before signing to ensure the new contract reflects their actual needs.
