Hollister Lietuva Leadership Shift: Shane Caher Returns to Kaunas

The leadership at Hollister Lietuva, a major division of the US-based medical device manufacturer Hollister Incorporated, is undergoing a significant transition. Saulius Bitinas, who has served as the General Manager for the past three years, has decided to step down to pursue new career opportunities outside the organization. To ensure operational stability at the Kaunas Free Economic Zone (FEZ) facility, the company has appointed Shane Caher as the interim General Manager, marking a return for the executive who originally launched the plant’s operations.

Saulius Bitinas joined Hollister Lietuva in 2020, initially serving as the head of the continence care manufacturing plant. He was instrumental in the initial opening and subsequent scaling of the Kaunas facility. Since ascending to the role of General Manager in 2023, Bitinas oversaw a period of rapid expansion during which the workforce grew to over 900 employees, including the staff at the Hollister Shared Service Centre (SSC) Lithuania. Under his tenure, the site significantly increased its production capacity for ostomy and continence care products while also integrating new product development and global business service functions.

A Period of Rapid Expansion and Recognition

The leadership change comes at a time when the Kaunas facility has established itself as a cornerstone of Lithuania’s industrial sector. In recent years, Hollister Lietuva has consistently ranked among the strongest companies in Lithuania’s non-food manufacturing industry. This success was recently capped by the prestigious “Investor of the Year” award at the Investors’ Forum, a recognition of the company’s impact on the local economy and its commitment to sustainable growth.

Reflecting on his departure, Bitinas noted that leaving the team was a difficult decision but expressed confidence in the organization’s current trajectory. He emphasized that the company is now a robust entity with a clear strategic path, crediting the collective effort of the 900-strong team for the professional and personal growth achieved during his tenure.

Ensuring Operational Continuity in Kaunas

While the search for a permanent successor is underway, the return of Shane Caher is intended to provide a seamless transition. Caher is a familiar figure within the Lithuanian business community, having served as the first General Manager of Hollister Lietuva from January 2019 to October 2021. His leadership during the plant’s foundational years is seen as a vital asset for maintaining momentum.

Caher will temporarily relocate to Kaunas from Ireland. His deep familiarity with the local operations, corporate culture, and the existing team is expected to ensure that manufacturing and development activities continue without disruption. This move highlights the international nature of Hollister’s operations, leveraging experienced leadership from across its European network to manage local transitions.

Strategic Importance of the Lithuanian Investment

Since its inauguration in October 2019, the Kaunas plant has represented the largest single investment ever undertaken by Hollister Incorporated. The facility is not merely a regional branch but a primary axis for the company’s global growth strategy. Hollister Incorporated, an independent, employee-owned firm headquartered in Libertyville, Illinois, develops and manufactures healthcare products for ostomy care, continence care, and critical care, serving patients in nearly 80 countries.

The Kaunas site serves as a critical link in this global supply chain. By combining manufacturing with a shared services center and product development capabilities, the Lithuanian operation has become a multifaceted hub that supports the company’s mission to provide essential medical supplies to healthcare professionals and patients worldwide. The ongoing search for a permanent leader will focus on finding an executive capable of maintaining this high-growth trajectory and managing one of the largest manufacturing workforces in the Baltic region.
