Free Brent Family Hub launches for local families: what residents need to know

Brent families will be able to visit two Best Start Family Hub launch events this summer as the borough rolls out a new way of bringing early years and family support into local community settings.

The events are free to attend, with residents invited to meet local professionals and find out what help is available through the hubs. The first launch takes place at St Raphael’s Best Start in Life Family Hub on Wednesday 17 June, from 1pm to 3pm. The second is at Preston Park Best Start in Life Family Hub on Thursday 2 July, from 11.30am to 2.30pm.

The hubs are aimed at families, parents, carers and young people, with support covering pregnancy through to age 18, and up to 25 for young people with special educational needs.

The launch events are being held as Brent Council introduces its new Early Years Strategy, which is intended to make support for families simpler, faster and easier to access.

At the centre of the approach is a network of Best Start Family Hubs, formerly known as Brent Family Wellbeing Centres. The hubs are designed as welcoming local spaces where families can access advice, guidance and services without having to navigate separate systems alone.

What families can find at the hubs

Residents attending the launch events will be able to meet local professionals and connect with services linked to early years, family life and young people’s development.

The support described by Brent Council includes health visiting, parenting support, early education, childcare advice, speech and language development, SEND support, and activities for children and young people.

For parents and carers, the practical value is in having several strands of support brought together in community settings. The council says the Family Hubs are intended to help families get the right support at the right time, including from pregnancy through to school age and beyond.

The strategy also places emphasis on earlier intervention, stronger support for the youngest children with additional needs, and tackling inequalities before they become barriers to a child’s future.

A new early years strategy shaped locally

Brent Council says the Early Years Strategy was shaped by the views of more than 400 local parents, carers and professionals. That local input has fed into a wider plan for a more connected, inclusive and family-focused early years system across the borough.

The council has also set targets to increase take-up of free childcare, improve school readiness and help more children thrive by the time they start school.

Cllr Jake Rubin, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Employment and Climate Action, said every child deserves the best possible start in life and every family should be able to access support quickly and easily.

“Our new Best Start Family Hub launches and Early Years Strategy mark a major step forward for Brent, bringing services together so families receive joined-up support from pregnancy through to school age,” he said.

He added that investing early, working with families and tackling inequalities head-on could help more children build stronger foundations for future success.

What to know before attending

The St Raphael’s Best Start in Life Family Hub launch is scheduled for Wednesday 17 June from 1pm to 3pm. The Preston Park Best Start in Life Family Hub launch is scheduled for Thursday 2 July from 11.30am to 2.30pm.

Both events are free, and Brent residents are invited to attend. The source information does not list venue street addresses, transport guidance, accessibility arrangements or a separate booking process.

Families who attend can use the launch events to ask about available support through the Best Start Family Hubs, including health visiting, parenting support, early education, childcare advice, speech and language development, SEND support, and activities for children and young people.
