The Klaipėda District Municipality Health Center in Gargždai has officially launched a major renovation and expansion project, signaling a significant shift in the region’s healthcare landscape. The project aims to transform the existing facility into a modern hub for physical medicine and rehabilitation, with a particular focus on introducing advanced water-based therapies that were previously unavailable in the local area.
This infrastructure update is designed to meet the growing demand for high-quality recovery services, allowing residents of the Klaipėda district to access specialized care closer to home. The renovation primarily targets the B building of the health center, where the physical medicine and rehabilitation department is located.
Expansion of Rehabilitation and Water Therapy Services
The most notable change for patients will be the introduction of a comprehensive suite of hydrotherapy treatments. The facility is being equipped with modern hydromassage baths, specialized baths for hands and feet, and vertical baths specifically designed for spinal stretching and therapeutic exercises.
A central feature of the new department will be a dedicated therapeutic pool. This pool will facilitate group water exercises and various aquatic therapies, which are considered essential for effective post-traumatic and chronic condition recovery. By integrating these services, the health center aims to provide a more holistic approach to patient rehabilitation, moving beyond standard physiotherapy to include modern, evidence-based water treatments.
In addition to the new water facilities, the center is upgrading its existing kinesiotherapy, occupational therapy, and massage rooms. New medical equipment and ergonomic furniture are being installed to ensure that the environment supports both patient comfort and clinical efficiency. A new information desk will also be established to streamline the registration process for rehabilitation services.
Infrastructure Upgrades and Accessibility
The renovation project extends beyond medical equipment to include fundamental infrastructure improvements. To ensure the facility is accessible to all members of the community, the health center is undergoing significant modifications to accommodate people with disabilities. This includes the installation of a specialized lift and the construction of four new ramps at various entry points.
Internal systems are also being modernized. The ventilation system in several parts of the building is being upgraded to meet contemporary health standards, and the heating substation is being overhauled to improve energy efficiency. These technical updates are intended to create a more comfortable environment for both patients and staff while reducing the long-term operational costs of the facility.

The access routes to the Emergency and Admissions Department are being redesigned to ensure smoother patient transfers. Furthermore, the removal of an obsolete electrical pole at the entrance will improve safety for vehicles entering and exiting the premises.
The project is being carried out by the contractor UAB “Baltic research statyba,” with a strict timeline aiming for completion by the end of the current year. While the construction work is ongoing, the health center remains operational, though patients are advised that temporary organizational changes may occur to accommodate the building works. This investment represents a major commitment by the Klaipėda District Municipality to modernize local healthcare infrastructure and provide residents with state-of-the-art rehabilitation options.
