Croydon mayor backs Palace parade after European win

Croydon’s executive mayor has congratulated Crystal Palace Football Club after the club won the 2026 UEFA Conference League Final, calling the result a historic moment for supporters across South London.

Jason Perry, who described himself as a Palace supporter and season ticket holder, said Croydon Council would be honoured to work with the club on celebration plans for a victory parade and civic event in the borough if they move forward.

In a letter addressed to the club chairman, Perry said the European final win came one year after Palace’s FA Cup victory at Wembley and marked the club’s first European final success.

He said the achievement belonged to the players, manager, coaching staff, club employees and supporters who had followed the team through “every high and low”.

The mayor said Croydon Council was willing to help deliver a public celebration in Croydon, giving fans of all ages a chance to see the trophy brought back to the area the club calls home.

Selhurst Park and the South London link

Perry framed the win as a moment for the wider South London Palace community, with Selhurst Park described as one of English football’s great homes and Croydon presented as proud to host the club.

Crystal Palace’s identity in the borough reaches beyond matchdays. The club is tied to local families, schools, businesses, community groups and generations of supporters across Croydon and nearby areas.

The mayor said a parade would allow children who have grown up watching Palace at Selhurst Park to see a European trophy brought home, while long-standing supporters could celebrate a milestone many had not expected to witness.

Parade plans still need confirmation

No date, route or event format has been confirmed in the council statement. Any public celebration would require coordination between Crystal Palace Football Club, Croydon Council and relevant local services.

Perry ended his message by saying the club had made history and made Croydon and South London proud.
